Vivek Chaturvedi Appointed New CBIC Chairman | Udaipur Kiran


New Delhi, November 29 (Udaipur Kiran): The Central Government has appointed 1990-batch IRS (C&IT) officer Vivek Chaturvedi as the new Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). The decision has been taken by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) through an official order.

As per the order, Vivek Chaturvedi, who is currently serving as a Member of the CBIC, will now assume charge of the top post of Chairman. This appointment is being seen as a significant development in the areas of revenue administration, customs system and indirect tax management.

The order has been issued by the Department of Personnel and Training under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions and has been signed by Deputy Secretary Subir Kumar.

Copies of the official letter have been sent to key government offices including the Prime Minister’s Office, the Cabinet Secretariat and the Guard File. The order has also been forwarded to the Department of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance, where Secretary Arvind Shrivastava has been informed. The CBIC is the apex body responsible for the administration and monitoring of India’s indirect tax structure, including GST, Customs and Central Excise. Therefore, the appointment to this post is considered crucial not only at the administrative level but also from the perspective of tax reforms and policy implementation.

Vivek Chaturvedi has extensive experience in tax administration, customs, digital tax systems and policy matters. As a senior IRS officer, he is expected to further strengthen transparency, efficiency and technological reforms in the functioning of the board.

In recent years, the Central Government has been making swift changes at top positions related to the IRS and administrative services to improve the effectiveness of policy execution and monitoring.
