Shiv Sena Submits Memorandum Against Illegal Goods Transport in Buses; One Vehicle Seized | Udaipur Kiran

Udaipur, 25 November (Udaipur Kiran): Shiv Sena’s division unit, along with transport traders, has demanded strict action against the illegal transportation of goods in passenger buses across Udaipur and the surrounding region. A memorandum in this regard was submitted to the district administration on Tuesday. Acting on information shared by the organisation, authorities seized a bus earlier in the morning for carrying overloaded and unauthorised goods.

Shiv Sena division chief Ashok Kumar Jain said several major bus accidents in Rajasthan in recent months have resulted in significant loss of life. He said one of the key reasons behind these accidents is the unsafe practice of loading large quantities of goods—often illegally—inside passenger buses. He alleged that the lack of strict action from the transport and police departments has encouraged bus owners and drivers to continue this practice, which not only endangers passengers but also causes revenue loss to the government through GST and tax evasion.

Around 7 a.m. on Tuesday, after receiving a complaint from transport traders, officials—along with Transport Officer Shyamji—intercepted a private bus at Kaya Bypass. On inspection, they found that the bus carried more parcels than passengers, with goods stacked across the rear and sides. The vehicle was immediately seized and taken to the RTO yard. Further inspection revealed that the chassis had been illegally cut and modified to create additional storage space, a change that increases accident risk and can lead to casualties.

Following this, organisation representatives submitted a memorandum to the District Collector and GST officials, demanding strong action against buses engaged in illegal goods transport. The Collector assured them that necessary directions would be issued.

Organisation member Vijay Patel said they have received information that some buses, driven by profit motive, are also transporting flammable materials—leading to fire incidents and putting innocent passengers at risk. He warned that if strict action is not taken soon, the organisation will launch an agitation against such illegal practices.

Patel also pointed out that many school vans in operation are second-hand vehicles, and the ongoing action by the transport and police departments is justified. He said van operators should prioritise children’s safety rather than threaten protests, as many are violating essential safety norms.

The action involved members of Transport Sena including Himanshu Menaria, Giriraj Singh, Harish Upadhyay, Shyamji, Nitin Jain, Pradeep Singh, Naresh Nagda, Mukesh Menaria, Digvijay Singh, along with Shiv Sena leaders and workers such as former deputy state chief Raviraj Soni, Vijay Patel, Pankaj Jain, Chetan Kumawat, Tej Prakash and others.
