IMD Warns of Increasing Cold, Fog and a Potential Cyclone | Udaipur Kiran

New Delhi, 24 November (Udaipur Kiran): Winter conditions are tightening their grip across North India as temperatures continue to fall. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several regions in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have recorded minimum temperatures below 6°C. Hisar in Haryana reported 7.4°C — the lowest among the plains.

At the same time, a fresh weather disturbance is developing over the South Andaman Sea. IMD reports that a low-pressure system is likely to intensify into a depression over the Bay of Bengal today. Within the next 36 hours, it may strengthen further into a cyclonic storm. Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over parts of South India and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands over the next few days. Between 24 and 28 November, the islands will witness continuous heavy rain, while Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Yanam may receive heavy showers on 24 November, accompanied by thunderstorms and winds reaching 30–50 kmph.

In North India, cold conditions are set to intensify. Over the next four days, minimum temperatures in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan are likely to drop by 2–3°C. Western UP may experience dense fog in the night and morning hours. Except for Maharashtra, no major change is expected across the western region.

Delhi’s air quality stays in ‘very poor’ category

Air quality in the national capital remained in the ‘very poor’ category on Sunday with an AQI of 391. According to the air quality bulletin, Delhi is expected to remain in the ‘very poor’ range from Monday to Wednesday. The IMD recorded a maximum temperature of 26.7°C and a minimum of 10.4°C — one degree below normal. Humidity was 68 percent at 5:30 pm. Moderate fog is expected on Monday, with temperatures likely to settle at around 25°C (maximum) and 10°C (minimum).

Cold winds push temperatures down in Uttar Pradesh

Dry and chilly westerly and north-westerly winds have led to a noticeable drop in temperatures across Uttar Pradesh. Over the next two to three days, maximum and minimum temperatures may fall by another 2–3°C, increasing the overall cold impact in the state. Dense fog may appear in parts of western UP during early morning hours, while light to moderate fog is expected in other regions.

On Sunday morning, varying levels of fog were reported across the state — moderate fog in Agra, Gorakhpur and Amethi, and light fog in Ayodhya, Kushinagar, Varanasi, Azamgarh, Aligarh and Prayagraj.
