Only 78.1 Overs Played Across First Innings in Historic Perth Ashes Test | Udaipur Kiran


Perth, 22 November (Udaipur Kiran)। The first Test of the 2025–26 Ashes series at Perth Stadium has already entered the record books, as both Australia and England were bowled out inside just 78.1 overs combined during their first innings by the second day’s first session.

England were dismissed for 172 runs in 32.5 overs. In response, Australia could last only 45.2 overs, getting bowled out for 132 runs, falling short of England’s total.

This has now become the second match in Ashes history where both teams faced so few overs in their respective first innings. The first instance dates back to January 1902 at Melbourne, when both teams combined for only 47.5 overs in their first innings. Australia were all out for 112 runs in 32.1 overs, while England crumbled to 61 runs in 15.4 overs. Australia won that match by 229 runs.

The third lowest in this list came in August 2019 at Leeds, where both sides played just 80 overs in the first innings. Australia scored 179 runs in 52.1 overs, while England managed only 67 runs in 27.5 overs.

In the ongoing Perth Test, Ollie Pope (46) and Harry Brook (52) contributed crucial runs for England. For Australia, Mitchell Starc was the standout with 7 wickets for 58 runs in 12.5 overs, while Brendan Doggett took 2 wickets.

Australia struggled in reply, posting just 132, with Alex Carey (26) and Cameron Green (24) being the top scorers. England gained a 40-run lead after the first innings. Ben Stokes starred with the ball, claiming 5 wickets for 23 runs in 6 overs, while Brydon Carse picked up 3 wickets.
