Cold Wave Grips Madhya Pradesh; Alert Issued in Six Districts | Udaipur Kiran

Bhopal, 20 November (Udaipur Kiran)। The impact of continuous snowfall in northern hill regions is now clearly visible in Madhya Pradesh, where severe cold conditions are prevailing across half of the state. This year, intense winter has arrived early, starting from the first week of November.

Night temperatures are dropping steadily. Bhopal has recorded the coldest November in the past 84 years, while Indore is witnessing its coldest conditions in 25 years. In the last 24 hours, Shajapur was the coldest city at 6.4°C. In 15 cities, including Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur and Ujjain, the minimum temperature slipped below 10°C.

The Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave alert for Thursday in six districts — Bhopal, Indore, Dewas, Sehore, Shajapur and Rajgarh. The department expects the cold spell to continue through November. A cold wave alert remains in place for the next two days, after which slight relief is likely.

According to the Bhopal Meteorological Centre, a cyclonic circulation persists over the southwest Bay of Bengal. Around 22 November, a low-pressure area may form over the southeast Bay of Bengal and intensify further in the following two days. Over the past decade, a pattern of winter accompanied by rainfall in November has been observed, and similar weather conditions are developing this year.

Senior meteorologist V.S. Yadav said minimum temperatures may gradually rise over the next two to three days, bringing some relief from the severe cold. Weather expert Ajay Shukla noted that wind direction has shifted to north-easterly and easterly, but the speed remains low, preventing major changes. Moisture levels are increasing, and night temperatures are likely to rise above 10°C in most cities within two days.

On Wednesday, cold wave conditions affected Bhopal, Rajgarh, Indore, Shajapur, Sehore, Khandwa, Khargone, Shahdol and Jabalpur. Shajapur recorded a cold day as temperatures dropped significantly.
