Temba Bavuma: ‘We Knew Batting Would Be Tough, Luckily Things Worked Out Well’ | Udaipur Kiran

Kolkata, 16 November (Udaipur Kiran). South Africa captain Temba Bavuma said his team expected batting to be difficult on the tricky Eden Gardens pitch, but was pleased that things ultimately went their way as they secured a 30-run win over India in a low-scoring thriller.

Speaking after the victory, Bavuma said, “It was a very exciting game. These are the kind of matches you want to be part of, and of course, you want the result to be on your side.”

He added, “We tried to stay in control as much as we could. We knew batting would be tough. It was difficult for us, but we had to capitalise on every opportunity we got, and I think we did that beautifully.”

Bavuma credited his teammates for fighting hard throughout the Test. “Luckily, things worked out quite well. Our bowlers brought us back into the game. The partnership between Corbin Bosch and Marco Jansen gave us a bit of momentum heading into Sunday morning. It wasn’t spectacular, but it kept us in the contest. We tried to stay in the game as much as possible,” he said.

South Africa were bowled out for 159 in their first innings after opting to bat, with Jasprit Bumrah taking five wickets. India replied with 189, earning a 30-run lead. In the second innings, South Africa managed 153, with Bavuma top-scoring with an unbeaten 55.

India, needing just 124 to win, collapsed under pressure. Yashasvi Jaiswal fell for a duck on the fourth ball of the chase, triggering a batting collapse. Washington Sundar scored 31 and Axar Patel contributed 26, but India fell short.
