IPL 2026: Abhay Sharma Likely to Join Lucknow Super Giants as Fielding Coach | Udaipur Kiran

New Delhi, November 10 (Udaipur Kiran) — In preparation for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are restructuring their coaching staff to bring in new expertise and direction. According to reports, former India U-19 fielding coach Abhay Sharma is likely to be appointed as the new fielding coach of the franchise.

Abhay Sharma brings with him a rich coaching background. He has previously served as the head coach of Uganda’s national cricket team and has also worked with the Indian women’s cricket team. Over his career, he has coached and mentored several prominent Indian cricketers, including Shubman Gill, Arshdeep Singh, Dhruv Jurel, Avesh Khan, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. His experience in developing young talent and refining fielding standards is expected to play a vital role in strengthening LSG’s on-field performance.

The Lucknow-based franchise has recently undergone significant leadership changes. Tom Moody has been appointed as the Director of Cricket, while former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has joined the team as the Strategic Director. Williamson, who went unsold in the previous IPL auction, is now set to contribute from behind the scenes, leveraging his vast international and league experience to guide the team.

LSG’s management appears determined to revamp the team after two underwhelming IPL seasons. Despite investing heavily in Rishabh Pant for IPL 2025 with hopes of turning the team’s fortunes around, the results fell short of expectations. With new roles for Moody, Williamson, and potentially Abhay Sharma, the franchise aims to refine its strategy, discipline, and team culture ahead of IPL 2026.
