New Delhi, November 8 (Udaipur Kiran): South African wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock has once again proven his class, winning the Player of the Series award for the seventh time in One Day Internationals (ODIs). Despite South Africa’s 2–1 series loss against Pakistan, de Kock stood out with his consistent and powerful batting performances.
Returning to ODI cricket after announcing his retirement, de Kock impressed everyone with scores of 63, 123, and 53 in the three-match series, amassing a total of 239 runs. His consistent form earned him the top individual honour in the series.
This marks the seventh time de Kock has won the Player of the Series title in ODIs for South Africa — just one behind former captain Shaun Pollock, who holds the national record with eight such awards. Other South African greats like Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers have won six each, while Jacques Kallis has claimed the honour five times.
De Kock had earlier announced his retirement from ODIs after the 2023 World Cup, surprising fans and cricket pundits alike. However, with South Africa set to co-host the 2027 World Cup, the 32-year-old reconsidered his decision and made a strong comeback — once again showcasing the form that made him one of the most dangerous openers in world cricket.
In his ODI career so far, Quinton de Kock has scored 7,009 runs in 158 innings, including 22 centuries and 32 half-centuries. His highest score is an unbeaten 178, and he has hit 128 sixes and 791 fours.
With his remarkable comeback and outstanding series performance, de Kock has reaffirmed his position as one of South Africa’s all-time ODI greats.
