
New Delhi, November 8 (Udaipur Kiran) — Union Electronics and Information Technology Secretary S. Krishnan has said that DigiLocker is emerging as a trusted bridge between citizens, ministries, and departments, ensuring secure, interconnected, and accountable digital governance. He added that India’s digital journey is now moving from connectivity to capability, from service delivery to self-reliance, and from digitalization to digital trust.
“Our goal is to build a future where every digital interaction is reliable, every citizen is empowered, and every institution is accountable,” Krishnan said while addressing a national conference on “DigiLocker: Enabling Paperless Access for All” organized by the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
The event brought together senior officials, experts, and policymakers from various ministries, state governments, and the education, finance, and technology sectors. The conference highlighted DigiLocker’s growing role as a key pillar of paperless governance, secure document management, and digital trust in India.
Additional Secretary Abhishek Singh described India’s tech-enabled governance as a “Digital Trust Revolution” and emphasized that DigiLocker has played a vital role in promoting transparency and building trust between citizens and the government. He announced that DigiLocker will soon be integrated with AI-based e-KYC and global certification verification systems, transforming it into a global model for paperless governance.
NeGD President and CEO Nand Kumarum noted that DigiLocker has evolved from a document storage platform into a strong pillar of the Digital India mission, enabling citizens to securely access, verify, and share their identity cards, certificates, financial records, and other official documents.
During the event, seven states — Maharashtra, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Kerala, and Mizoram — were honored as “DigiLocker Accelerators.” Assam received the Integration Excellence Award, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh were presented the Jan-Pratham Integration Award, Meghalaya was recognized as a Dual Platform Integrated State, Kerala received the Innovation Award, Maharashtra the Rapid Integration Award, and Mizoram the Requester Award.
Officials from Maharashtra and Assam shared successful use cases of DigiLocker integration in their states. Maharashtra showcased the integration of DigiLocker with its pension and treasury systems, while Assam highlighted its achievement of linking DigiLocker with over 500 citizen services through the Seva Setu portal.
Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education Govind Jaiswal and National Educational Technology Forum Chairman Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe said that DigiLocker has transformed digital certification in the education sector in line with the National Education Policy 2020. Representatives from IDBI Bank, HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Edelweiss Mutual Fund, and National e-Governance Services Ltd. also shared how DigiLocker has made banking guarantees, investments, and document verification fully paperless and transparent.
