JK Tyre Unveils India’s First Tyre Buffing and Grinding Machine for Wet Grip Testing at NATRAX | Udaipur Kiran

Udaipur, November 5 (Udaipur Kiran): In a major step toward advancing tyre safety and testing innovation in India, JK Tyre & Industries Ltd. has inaugurated the country’s first precision Tyre Buffing and Grinding Machine (Wet Grip on Worn Tyre) at NATRAX, Pithampur.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dr. Raghupati Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director of JK Tyre & Industries, along with Dr. Manish Jaiswal, Director of NATRAX, and other senior dignitaries.

Enhancing Tyre Safety through Innovation

The newly installed machine complies with ECE R117 international regulations, which assess tyre safety by measuring wet braking performance of tyres worn close to the legal tread depth limit of 1.6 mm. The equipment will be used to prepare worn tyre samples across C1 (passenger car), C2 (light commercial), and C3 (truck/bus) categories to support Wet Grip on Worn Tyre (WGWT) testing at NATRAX. This development will allow for comprehensive safety validation across all major vehicle segments in India.

Commitment to Self-Reliance and Safety

Speaking at the event, Dr. Raghupati Singhania said,

“With the inauguration of the Precision Tyre Buffing and Grinding Machine (Wet Grip on Worn Tyre) at NATRAX, JK Tyre has taken yet another step forward in advancing tyre testing and safety innovation in India. It reflects our unwavering commitment to innovation, technology leadership, and enhancing vehicular safety through modern engineering and world-class testing infrastructure.”

Strengthening India’s Testing Ecosystem

This new installation marks a significant addition to JK Tyre’s comprehensive testing infrastructure, enabling the company to strengthen its R&D, product validation, and homologation capabilities. Since 2017, JK Tyre has collaborated with NATRAX Indore for advanced vehicle-level testing, including handling, braking, wet grip, and noise evaluation.

The company has also set up dedicated infrastructure at NATRAX — including two workshops, a team of skilled engineers, and specialized equipment such as a skid trailer, steering robot, and noise measurement systems, supported by a fleet of test vehicles.

Driving Technological Leadership

With this milestone, JK Tyre reinforces its position as a technology leader in the Indian tyre industry. Through continued investment in R&D and testing, the company aims to further contribute to India’s automotive safety, self-reliance, and global competitiveness.
