Wellington, November 4 (Udaipur Kiran) — New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter Tim Seifert has been ruled out of the upcoming five-match T20 International series against the West Indies after suffering a fracture in his right index finger, New Zealand Cricket confirmed in a press release on Tuesday.
Seifert sustained the injury while batting for Northern Districts during a Ford Trophy match against Wellington Firebirds. Subsequent scans confirmed the fracture, ruling him out of action for the entire series.
Head coach Rob Walter expressed disappointment over Seifert’s injury, saying, “We’re all gutted for Tim. He’s a key part of our T20 squad, and both his attacking presence at the top order and his wicketkeeping are vital for the team. We hope he recovers quickly and returns to action soon.”
In Seifert’s absence, Mitch Hay has been named as his replacement. Hay has represented New Zealand in 11 T20 Internationals and holds the world record for the most dismissals (six) by a wicketkeeper in a single T20I innings.
Coach Walter added, “Mitch has made the most of his limited international chances so far. He’s a high-quality wicketkeeper-batter and adds valuable depth to our squad.”
The five-match T20 series between New Zealand and the West Indies will begin on November 5 (Wednesday) at Eden Park in Auckland.
