Srikakulam (Andhra Pradesh), November 1 (Udaipur Kiran). A tragic stampede at the Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Kasibugga, Andhra Pradesh, claimed the lives of at least 10 people on Friday evening. More than a dozen others were injured in the incident, and officials fear that the death toll may rise.
According to initial reports, the stampede occurred during Ekadashi celebrations, when a large crowd of devotees had gathered at the temple. The exact cause of the stampede is yet to be determined. The temple, located in Srikakulam district, attracts thousands of devotees during religious festivals.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling it “heartbreaking.” He extended condolences to the families of the deceased and directed officials to ensure immediate medical assistance to the injured.
Several videos circulating on social media show chaotic scenes at the temple premises — women and children lying unconscious on the ground while devotees attempt to revive them with CPR. Worship items were seen scattered across the temple floor.
The State Agriculture Minister rushed to the site to oversee relief operations. Police and emergency teams were deployed promptly to control the situation and carry out rescue and medical aid efforts. Authorities have confirmed that the situation is now under control, and the injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
