Shreyas Iyer Discharged from Hospital, to Continue Recovery in Sydney | Udaipur Kiran

New Delhi, November 1 (Udaipur Kiran). Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer has been discharged from the hospital and will remain in Sydney under medical supervision to continue his recovery, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed in an official statement on Saturday. He will return to India only after being fully fit.

Iyer had sustained a serious abdominal injury while fielding during the third ODI against Australia on October 25, 2025. Medical examination revealed a cut in his spleen that caused internal bleeding. Doctors promptly treated the injury, controlled the bleeding, and performed a minor procedure after which his condition stabilised.

BCCI’s Head of Medical Services, Dr. Abhijit Saikia, said, “Shreyas Iyer is now stable and recovering well. The medical teams in Sydney and India are satisfied with his progress.”

The board also expressed gratitude to Dr. Kourosh Haghighi and his team in Sydney, along with Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala in Mumbai, for providing excellent medical care to Iyer.

Before the injury, Iyer had scored 72 runs in two ODIs during the Australia tour, including a fighting 61-run knock in Adelaide where he shared a century partnership with skipper Rohit Sharma. In 2025, he has accumulated 496 runs in 11 matches at an average of 49.60 and a strike rate of 89.53, including five half-centuries and a top score of 79. He was also India’s top run-scorer in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 with 243 runs.

With his recovery still ongoing, Iyer’s participation in the upcoming home ODI series against South Africa, starting November 30, remains uncertain. Fans across India are eagerly waiting for the dependable batsman’s early return to the field.
