Beijing, October 25 (Udaipur Kiran) — Following Apple’s launch of the iPhone Air, Huawei is readying its own ultra-thin flagship — the Huawei Mate 70 Air — which has already surfaced on China Telecom’s website. According to multiple Weibo tipsters, the smartphone is expected to debut on October 29, positioning it as Huawei’s sleekest phone to date.
Tech blogger Fixed Focus Digital revealed that the Mate 70 Air will feature a remarkably slim body measuring just 6.x mm in thickness. Another reliable source, Panda is very bald, backed this launch date and added that Huawei will unveil the device officially on Tuesday.
No eSIM, Only Physical SIM Support
Unlike Apple’s eSIM-only iPhone Air, Huawei is opting for a traditional dual physical SIM setup. Sources suggest that Huawei’s decision aligns with user demand in China, where eSIM adoption remains extremely low. In regions such as Taiwan, eSIM penetration is said to be under 1%, mainly due to limited awareness and the inconvenience of in-person activation at carrier offices.
Key Specifications and Features
According to leaks, the Huawei Mate 70 Air will sport a 6.9-inch display with an 18.8:9 aspect ratio, offering a broad and immersive viewing experience. On the rear, the phone is expected to feature a 1/1.3-inch primary sensor with Huawei’s signature XMAGE circular camera module, coupled with what insiders describe as a “red maple” lens for enhanced optical performance.
The device will reportedly ship in two configurations — 12GB RAM + 256GB storage and 12GB RAM + 512GB storage — and will run on HarmonyOS 5 out of the box.
Continuing Huawei’s Legacy of Ultra-Thin Design
Huawei’s history with ultra-slim smartphones dates back more than a decade. The company’s Ascend P1 S (2012) held a record 6.68mm profile, followed by the Ascend P6 (6.2mm) and P7 (6.5mm) — all known for their sleek engineering. The Mate 70 Air appears set to continue that tradition with a modern twist, merging thinness with flagship-grade specs.
With its combination of minimal thickness, powerful hardware, and user-friendly dual SIM approach, the Huawei Mate 70 Air is poised to be a compelling alternative to the iPhone Air in the premium smartphone segment.
