Yellow Alert Issued in 11 Odisha Districts as Low-Pressure System Weakens | Udaipur Kiran

Bhubaneswar, October 23 (Udaipur Kiran): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow weather alert for 11 districts in Odisha, warning of moderate rainfall and gusty winds due to the impact of a weakening low-pressure system over southern India.

According to the IMD, the deep depression that had formed over the southern region is expected to weaken into a normal low-pressure area within the next 12 hours. The system, which was earlier likely to intensify into a depression, is now moving in a northwest direction toward the interior parts of Tamil Nadu, gradually losing strength.

Manorama Mohanty, Regional Director of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, said the weakening system will alter wind patterns and increase humidity levels across parts of Odisha. “Under its influence, several districts of the state are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall over the next 24 hours,” she said.

In an update shared on its official X (Twitter) handle, the IMD stated:

“The deep depression over north coastal Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas moved northwestwards and was centered over north interior Tamil Nadu at 11:30 p.m. on October 22. It is likely to move further northwest and weaken into a low-pressure area.”

The IMD has urged residents in the affected districts to stay alert for localized heavy rainfall and advised farmers to plan agricultural activities accordingly.
