New Delhi, October 21 (Udaipur Kiran): World No. 2 Jannik Sinner has officially withdrawn from this year’s Davis Cup Finals, dealing a major blow to defending champions Italy ahead of the prestigious team event. The Italian Tennis Federation confirmed his absence on Monday while announcing the national squad. Meanwhile, World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz will represent Spain in the tournament.
Sinner, who played a crucial role in helping Italy clinch the Davis Cup title in Spain last year, will skip the upcoming Final 8 stage, scheduled to take place in Bologna, Italy, from November 18 to 23.
Italian team captain Filippo Volandri said, “Jannik Sinner has informed us that he will not be available for the 2025 Davis Cup. The Davis Cup will always be his home, and I am confident he will rejoin the team in the future. For now, we have a strong lineup ready to give their best.”
The Italian squad will feature Matteo Berrettini, Simone Bolelli, Flavio Cobolli, Lorenzo Musetti, and Andrea Vavassori.
Sinner’s absence comes as he prepares to defend his ATP Finals title in Turin, which will be held just a week before the Davis Cup. The Italian star has had a remarkable year, winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon 2025, and reaching all four Grand Slam finals.
Meanwhile, Spain’s team will be spearheaded by Carlos Alcaraz, alongside Jaume Munar, Pedro Martinez, and Marcel Granollers. Alcaraz will aim to guide Spain to their first Davis Cup title since 2019.
Adding to the tournament’s excitement, World No. 3 Alexander Zverev will also make his debut appearance in the Davis Cup Finals, representing Germany.
