Christian McCaffrey Shines as 49ers Beat Falcons 20-10 on Sunday Night Football | Udaipur Kiran

San Francisco, October 20 (Udaipur Kiran): Running back Christian McCaffrey delivered a vintage performance on Sunday night, powering the San Francisco 49ers to a 20-10 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. The star playmaker dominated both on the ground and through the air, finishing with 129 rushing yards, two touchdowns, and seven receptions for 72 yards.

McCaffrey, who entered Week 7 with 780 yards from scrimmage but averaging just 3.1 yards per carry, rediscovered his 2023 form against Atlanta. He opened his scoring account late in the second quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run, giving San Francisco a halftime edge.

In the fourth quarter, McCaffrey effectively sealed the win — first converting a crucial third-and-3 with a 17-yard catch, and then punching in a 4-yard touchdown run to extend the 49ers’ lead to 20-10 with just over two minutes remaining.

It marked McCaffrey’s first 100-yard rushing game of the regular season and his first 120-plus-yard effort since Week 14 of 2023. Overall, the 49ers’ ground attack found new life, tallying 174 yards on 39 carries for an impressive 4.5-yard average.

Quarterback Mac Jones had a modest outing, completing 17 of 26 passes for 152 yards with one interception. Defensively, Tatum Bethune, filling in for Fred Warner, recorded 10 tackles, including one for a loss.

For the Falcons, rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. threw for 241 yards, one touchdown, and a lost fumble on 21-of-38 passing. However, a late turnover on downs in the fourth quarter proved costly when his pass to Drake London fell incomplete on a crucial fourth-and-1 play.

Running back Bijan Robinson was kept in check, managing just 40 rushing yards on 14 carries, though he added six receptions for 52 yards.

The win moves the 49ers to 5-2, keeping them atop the NFC West based on their earlier victory over the Rams. They will travel to face the Houston Texans next week. Meanwhile, the Falcons (3-3) return home to host the struggling Miami Dolphins (1-6) in Week 8.
