Palamu, October 19 (Udaipur Kiran): A young man was abducted and shot dead in broad daylight in Shahpur Nai Mohalla under Chainpur police station area of Jharkhand’s Palamu district on Sunday. Before being killed, the victim was reportedly beaten and stabbed by the assailants.

The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Hasan Ali, son of Ibrar Hajam (Mistri), a resident of Pathan Mohalla in Chainpur.

According to local residents, around five armed men were involved in the incident. The attackers abducted Hasan Ali from Chainpur on a motorcycle, assaulted him, and took him nearly three kilometres away, where they killed him. CCTV footage captured the abduction, helping police in identifying the culprits. A banned cough syrup was also recovered from the victim’s pocket.

Reports suggest that Hasan Ali and another man, Vinay Agarwal, were sitting near Hospital Chowk in Chainpur when four to five men arrived and attacked them. The group forcibly took Hasan away on a motorcycle. He was later beaten again, stabbed, and then shot in the neck at close range.

Vinay Agarwal informed Hasan’s family about the abduction. The family began searching for him and eventually found his body in Shahpur Nai Mohalla.

Police arrived at the scene, took custody of the body, and sent it to Raja Medini Rai Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.

Family members alleged that a man named Saddam from Shahpur may be involved in the murder. They also said Hasan used to work as a painter in Mumbai and had returned home during Muharram.

Sources said Hasan had a criminal record and was previously jailed in connection with a murder case in 2020. After his release, he had moved to Mumbai for work.

Chainpur police station in-charge Ram Sharma said that the body has been sent for post-mortem and an investigation is underway. Efforts are being made to identify and arrest the culprits. Police are also probing whether the killing was a result of personal enmity or other reasons.
