Light Rain Likely in Parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Dry Weather Expected Thereafter | Udaipur Kiran

Srinagar, October 18 (Udaipur Kiran): Most parts of Jammu and Kashmir are expected to experience dry weather today, though light rain is likely in some southern and hilly districts by afternoon. Areas including Kishtwar, Doda, Anantnag, Ramban, Udhampur, and Kathua may receive brief spells of light rain before conditions turn dry across the Union Territory later in the day.

According to the Kashmir Meteorological Department, overall trends indicate that the region will continue to witness mainly dry weather until October 20, with only isolated places expected to receive light rainfall. This comes as the region stabilizes after several days of rain and snowfall last week that had affected higher-altitude areas.

At Zojila Pass, temperatures have dropped significantly, plunging to minus 8°C, signaling the onset of early winter conditions in the upper regions. The pass has recorded around six inches of snow, with five inches currently settled on the ground, accompanied by light winds blowing at approximately 6 km/h.

Similarly, Sinthan Top has witnessed snow accumulation of 8 to 9 inches, while Daksum recorded about 1 to 2 inches. However, Kokernag has seen little to no snow, reflecting the localized nature of recent weather activity.

Meteorologists have described this pattern as normal for early October, though the intensity of snow over high mountain passes such as Zojila and Sinthan is slightly above average due to continuous western disturbances over the past week.

Weather officials forecast mostly dry and calm conditions across the Union Territory, favorable for travel and outdoor activities. However, they have advised travelers to exercise caution on snow-covered mountain routes, especially along Zojila and Sinthan Passes, where slippery conditions may persist.
