
Srinagar, October 17 (Udaipur Kiran): Mild tremors were felt across several parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday evening after a moderate earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale struck the Afghanistan–Tajikistan border region, officials said.
According to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the earthquake occurred at around 5:45 p.m., with its epicentre located at latitude 36.62°N and longitude 72.72°E, at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres.
The Meteorological Department in Srinagar confirmed that tremors were felt in several parts of the Kashmir Valley, causing brief panic among residents who rushed out of their homes and offices.
Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage from any part of the Union Territory.
