Los Angeles, October 17 (Udaipur Kiran): Pop icon Britney Spears has strongly criticized her ex-husband Kevin Federline for what she described as attempts to “profit off my pain,” after excerpts from his upcoming memoir You Thought You Knew were released.
In an emotional post shared on Instagram on Thursday, Spears expressed frustration over recent claims made by Federline regarding her relationship with their sons, Sean Preston (20) and Jayden James (19).
“To be loved unconditionally and with a naive heart like mine, always being threatened or made to believe I’m the bad one as they profit off my pain,” Spears wrote. “If truth be told, the man in the interview went straight to the source and said it clear as day… no money from Britney for 5 years, you trying to get paid.”
While Spears did not mention Federline by name, her post appeared to directly address the allegations in his memoir, in which he claims their teenage sons were once afraid to stay at their mother’s home.
In a separate Instagram post a day earlier, Spears accused her ex-husband of “constant gaslighting” and said she had always wanted a close relationship with her children.
“I have always pleaded and screamed to have a life with my boys,” she wrote. “Sadly, they have always witnessed the lack of respect shown by their own father for me.”
Spears and Federline married in 2004 and divorced in 2007, after which Federline was granted full physical custody of their sons. He later relocated with them to Hawaii in 2023.
In his memoir, which releases on October 21, Federline recounts an incident where their sons allegedly felt fearful, claiming that Spears once stood silently in their doorway holding a knife. He also described the night Spears was placed under psychiatric hold at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, calling it “one of the hardest nights” of his life.
Federline further writes that he worries Spears is “racing toward something irreversible,” adding, “The clock is ticking, and something bad is going to happen if things don’t change.”
Spears, who regained her freedom in 2021 after a 14-year conservatorship, has previously spoken about the challenges of losing custody and being portrayed negatively. In her own memoir released in 2023, she wrote that she wished she had been allowed to “follow her heart” and rebuild her family life.
The singer ended her latest post by rejecting the claims made in Federline’s book, saying:
“Those white lies in that book, they are going straight to the bank, and I am the only one who genuinely gets hurt here.”
