Smriti Irani Reacts to Comparisons Between ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2’ and ‘Anupamaa’ | Udaipur Kiran

Mumbai, October 16 (Udaipur Kiran): Actress-turned-politician Smriti Irani, who recently made a powerful comeback with ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2’, has responded to the ongoing comparisons between her iconic show and Rupali Ganguly’s hit serial ‘Anupamaa’. The two shows have been widely discussed among audiences and on social media, especially after Kyunki 2’s strong start in TRP charts.

In an interview with India Today, Smriti Irani addressed the comparisons, emphasizing that the legacy of the original ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ can never be recreated. She said, “The legacy of Kyunki is unmatched. Back in 2000, the show achieved a 30 TRP rating. If someone can reach that number today, only then can they call themselves our competition.”

“If You Can Be Remembered for 25 Years, Then We’ll Talk”

Irani further explained that true competition is not about current ratings but about long-term impact and legacy. She added, “If you have the ability to be remembered for 25 years, then we can talk about competition. If you’ve been a three-time MP, served as a cabinet minister for 10 years, and been part of a major political party for 25 years, then let’s discuss competition on equal footing.”

“You Can’t Compare Someone Who’s Just Started”

The former Union Minister also clarified that comparing a recently launched show or actor to a legacy that has lasted decades is unfair and unrealistic. She said, “You can’t compare someone who has just started with me and call it competition. The continued relevance of ‘Kyunki’ itself is proof of its impact. There’s no guarantee that a show returning after 25 years would receive the same love, but ours did.”

Smriti Irani concluded by asserting that the success and cultural influence of the original ‘Kyunki’ set benchmarks that remain unmatched in Indian television history, adding that “no one has been able to achieve that 30 TRP or stay at No.1 for eight years straight.”
