CBSE National Chess Championship Concludes at MDS School Udaipur, Velammal Schools Dominate | Udaipur Kiran


Udaipur, September 5 (Udaipur Kiran): The CBSE National Chess Championship 2025-26, hosted for the first time in Rajasthan at MDS School, Pratap Nagar, Udaipur, concluded on Friday with a grand closing ceremony held at the school’s Centre Court. The event was marked by disciplined participation, impressive performances, and warm hospitality, showcasing Udaipur’s organizing capabilities.

The closing ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Shyam Kapoor, Regional Officer, CBSE Ajmer, along with special guests RAS officer Jitendra Ojha and Ramesh Bahediya. Trustees Ramesh Chandra Somani and Pushpa Somani, along with social worker Sudhir Joshi, were also present. The winners received medals, trophies, and mementoes, while referees, including Chief Arbiter Rajendra Teli, were felicitated.

MDS School’s Performance

The host school MDS also displayed commendable performances. The Under-14 Girls’ team secured the fourth position after a nail-biting contest against Velammal School, Mogappair (Chennai). The Under-17 Mixed team finished seventh, while Kiyana Parihar brought pride to Udaipur by winning a silver medal in the individual category, along with a board prize.

  • Under-19 Mixed: Velammal School, Karambakkam (Chennai) – 1st; Velammal School, Azhapakkam (Chennai) – 2nd; Silicon City Academy, Bengaluru – 3rd.

  • Under-19 Girls: Velammal School, Azhapakkam – 1st; Sunbeam School, Annapurna (Varanasi) – 2nd; Indian School, Muscat (Oman) – 3rd.

  • Under-17 Mixed: Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria School, Kolkata – 1st; Delhi Public School, Qatar – 2nd; Sunbeam School, Varanasi – 3rd.

  • Under-17 Girls: Velammal School, Ayanambakkam – 1st; GEMS Our Own English High School, Dubai – 2nd; Amity International School, Noida – 3rd.

  • Under-14 Mixed: Velammal School, Azhapakkam – 1st; Mother’s International School, New Delhi – 2nd; Step by Step School, Noida – 3rd.

  • Under-14 Girls: Velammal School, Ayanambakkam – 1st; Velammal School, Mogappair – 2nd; Indian School, Muscat – 3rd.

  • Under-11 Mixed: Velammal School, Mangadu – 1st; Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Tamil Nadu – 2nd; Khelgaon Public School, Prayagraj – 3rd.

  • Under-11 Girls: Velammal School, Vanagaram – 1st; Basaveshwara Primary School, Karnataka – 2nd; Bal Bharati Public School, Pitampura (Delhi) – 3rd.

Inspiration and Closing Moments

During the closing, the CBSE flag was lowered by Regional Officer Shyam Kapoor, and the MDS flag by trustee R. Somani. Addressing students, Kapoor urged them to protect the environment, maintain cleanliness, and help others. He described chess in three words: “Planning, Execution, and sometimes Surrender.”

The championship reflected Velammal Schools’ dominance across categories, while MDS School earned appreciation for hosting Rajasthan’s first CBSE National Chess Championship successfully. Guests and participants widely praised the discipline, hospitality, sportsmanship, and fairness of the event, calling it one of the finest national chess tournaments ever conducted.

The ceremony concluded with the National Anthem and flag lowering, filling the atmosphere with pride, inspiration, and enthusiasm.
