Heavy Rain Alert in Bengal; Fishermen Advised Not to Venture into Sea | Udaipur Kiran

Kolkata, September 4 (Udaipur Kiran). A low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal is rapidly intensifying and is expected to reach the Odisha coast within the next 24 hours. Moving through Jharkhand towards Chhattisgarh, the system is likely to trigger heavy rainfall across several districts of West Bengal.

The Meteorological Department has warned fishermen not to venture into the sea for the next 24 hours due to high waves and rough conditions.

South Bengal districts on alert

On Thursday, heavy rainfall is expected in North and South 24 Parganas, Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, East and West Medinipur, Jhargram, and Bankura. Winds with speeds of 30–40 kmph may accompany the showers. The impact of the low-pressure system could keep weather conditions unstable until early next week.

On Friday, South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, and Jhargram may see light to moderate rain with isolated heavy showers and thunderstorms. A yellow alert has been issued for all these districts. In Kolkata, heavy rainfall may lead to waterlogging in several low-lying areas.

North Bengal also affected

Rain and thunderstorms are continuing in North Bengal as well. Districts including Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, and Alipurduar are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall, along with thunder and winds reaching 30–40 kmph. A yellow alert has also been issued for Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, North Dinajpur, and Malda.

Kolkata weather update

In Kolkata, the maximum temperature today was recorded at around 31°C and the minimum at about 26°C. The sky remained mostly cloudy, with intermittent light to moderate showers. High humidity has added to discomfort in the city.
