Jabalpur, September 3 (Udaipur Kiran): The Bargi Dam of the Rani Avanti Bai Sagar Project in Jabalpur has crossed its maximum storage level, prompting the release of water through nine gates.
Officials confirmed that the maximum water level of the dam is 422.76 metres, but on Wednesday morning at 8 a.m., the level reached 422.85 metres. The dam’s live storage capacity of 3,205.50 MCM is now at 100.80 percent.
Currently, the inflow into the reservoir is 1,001 cusecs. To manage the rising level, water discharge has been increased from 200 cusecs to 1,097 cusecs. For this purpose, nine gates have been opened to an average height of 0.78 metres.
Authorities have cautioned that the increased discharge could raise water levels by 5 to 6 feet along the ghats and banks of the Narmada River. The Assistant Engineer of Bargi Dam Flood Control has appealed to the public to maintain a safe distance from the riverbanks and ghats.
