The graphic promoting India’s white-ball tour of England in 2026 featured both England’s captain Harry Brook and India’s current ODI skipper Rohit Sharma. The choice of image has fans wondering: if Rohit is front and centre in 2026, could he remain ODI captain through the 2027 World Cup?

Rohit has already bowled out of the T20I format following India’s 2024 T20 World Cup win and stepped away from Test cricket after the England series. That leaves him as a one-format warrior, solely focused on ODIs.

ICC have since taken down the post, for reasons unknown.

The plot thickens with prior insights from India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir. He emphasised that planning for 2027 is premature.

“We still have a T20 World Cup before that, and that is again a huge tournament, which is going to happen in India in February-March. So, the entire focus at the moment—after England—will be on the T20 World Cup. And November-December 2027 is still two-and-a-half years away,” Gambhir said ahead of the England series.

“if you keep performing, age is just a number,” he added.

In the shortest format, Suryakumar Yadav has become India’s steady T20I skipper, bridging the transition from Rohit’s influence.
