ENG vs IND: Kumar Dharmasena faces Fans’ wrath after Ravindra Jadeja lbw howler

Sri Lankan umpire Kumar Dharmasena is receiving flak from Indian fans after his wrong decision against Ravindra Jadeja on Day 3 of the fifth Test against England at the Oval. Dharmasena, who was earlier criticised for revealing that Sai Sudharsan had got an inside edge on his pads on Day 1 to England, raised his finger to signal Jadeja out in the second session on Day 3.

The India all-rounder immediately opted for DRS, and the ball-tracking revealed that he was struck outside off stump, and hence the decision was reversed. However, the decision didn’t go down well with Indian fans, who slammed Dharmasena for his biased umpiring.

Earlier, umpires Paul Reiffel and Sharfuddoula faced criticism for their shoddy umpiring during the third Test of the series at Lord’s, where India fell 23 runs short of England’s target of 193 in the fourth innings.

Jaiswal started the day by stitching a massive partnership with nightwatchman Akash Deep as the duo frustrated England in the first session. They added 107 runs for the fourth wicket off 150 balls to suck the life out of a depleted England attack sans Chris Woakes.

Jaiswal further stitched crucial stands with Karun Nair and Ravindra Jadeja of 40 and 44 runs respectively. He brought up his century off 127 balls with a quick single against Gus Atkinson. It was the 6th Test century for the India opener and his second of the series. Following his dismissal, Ravindra Jadeja (26*) and Dhruv Jurel (25*) took India to tea on 304/6 with a 281-run lead.
