Iga Swiatek has finally reached her first Wimbledon final, ending a long wait for success on grass. On Thursday, July 10, the World No. 1 cruised past Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic 6-2, 6-0 in just one hour and 11 minutes on Centre Court.
Before this year’s tournament, Swiatek had never advanced beyond the quarterfinals at the All England Club – or reached the final of any grass-court event. Now, she stands just one win away from capturing her first title on a surface that has historically challenged her.
With the victory, Swiatek became the first Polish player to reach the Wimbledon women’s singles final since Agnieszka Radwanska in 2012.

“I never dreamt it would be possible for me to play in the final. Tennis keeps surprising me. I thought I lived through everything,” Swiatek said in the on-court interview.
Next, Swiatek will face Amanda Anisimova of the United States, who earlier upset World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka on Centre Court.
Iga Swiatek dictates terms
Swiatek came out firing in the opening set, racing to a 3-0 lead with an early break and allowing Bencic little room to respond. She secured a second break at 5-2 to close out the set in 37 minutes.
The second set was even more one-sided. Swiatek maintained her intensity, securing a double break to take a commanding 5-0 lead. She wrapped up the match with a third break, showcasing complete control from start to finish.
Bencic, struggling throughout, even cut a hole in her shoe in an attempt to gain some relief, but it had little effect on the outcome.
Swiatek’s serve was a key weapon, winning 83 per cent of points on her first serve. She also hit 26 winners – 15 more than Bencic – dictating the pace of the match with confidence and precision.
Swiatek, unbeaten in Grand Slam finals with a perfect 5-0 record – including four titles at Roland Garros and one at the 2022 US Open – will now look to complete her set with a maiden Wimbledon crown.
