IPL 2025: KKR vs LSG stays in Kolkata, but BCCI changes date and timing of match

Kolkata Knight Riders vs Lucknow Super Giants’ match has not been taken away from hosts Kolkata. Instead, the match, originally scheduled to be played on 6th April, will now be played on April 8. This means that April 8, Tuesday, will turn into a double header for the Indian Premier League with KKR vs LSG being played at 3:30 PM IST, while PBKS vs CSK, being played at its original schedule of 7:30 PM.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the rescheduling of the match on Friday, March 28. The BCCI revealed that the decision was taken because of a request from Kolkata Police to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) regarding the deployment of personnel across the city owing to festivities.

“The authorities have recommended that the game be moved to Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 3:30 PM, and the request has been accommodated accordingly. The rest of the schedule remains unchanged. For clarity, Sunday, April 6, will now be a single-header match day, with Sunrisers Hyderabad hosting Gujarat Titans at 7:30 PM (Match No. 20) as originally scheduled. Tuesday, April 8, will be a double-header match day, featuring the KKR vs. LSG fixture in the afternoon in Kolkata, followed by Punjab Kings hosting Chennai Super Kings (Match No. 22) in New Chandigarh in the evening, as per the original schedule,” the BCCI press release read on Friday.

The KKR vs LSG match has been moved due to the Ram Navami celebrations in Kolkata. Earlier, it was reported that the match would be moved out of Kolkata and would be given to Guwahati. However, India Today had reported that the CAB was trying everything in its hands to keep the game at home.

While the KKR game has remained at Kolkata, there is separate controversy brewing at home for the defending champions. KKR have had a tense standoff with the pitch curator Sujan Mukherjee after captain Ajinkya Rahane did not like the fact that the home pitch did not suit the strengths of the team.

“We would love to see the pitch helping the spin bowlers, but again, this wicket was under cover for the last one-and-a-half days,” Rahane said at the post-match press conference. “Both the spinners we have, the quality they have, they can bowl on any kind of wicket, and I am sure they are confident as well.”
