Fresh from his Challenger doubles triumph in Rwanda, Siddhant Banthia will check his singles game against top seed Jay Clarke of Britain in the $15,000 ITF men’s tennis tournament being played at the CLTA Complex from Tuesday.
With Woobin Shin of Korea and Grigoriy Lomakin of Kazakhstan as the only foreign players to be seeded, it should be a happy hunting ground for the Indian players in their pursuit of ATP points.
Second seed Karan Singh opens against the tenacious Yuvan Nandal. Davis Cupper Digvijay Pratap Singh returns to the professional circuit after being out with injury, and will play eighth seed Grigoriy Lomakin.
Fourth-seeded Dev Javia meets the towering Chirag Duhan. Manish Sureshkumar will play seventh seed Sidharth Rawat.
This is the first of three men’s tournaments to be played at home.
In the qualifying event, Sarthak Suden beat the top seed Parth Aggarwal 6-7(2), 6-2, [10-3] in the third and final round. Abhinav Sanjeev Shanmugam, Dalwinder Singh, Maan Kesharwani and Faisal Qamar were the other Indian players to qualify for the main event.
