Rohit Sharma’s luck with the toss continued to elude him in the Champions Trophy 2025 final against Mitchell Santner’s New Zealand. On Sunday, March 9, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Rohit lost his 12th toss in a row, matching the record set by the legendary Brian Lara, who also lost 12 consecutive tosses from 1998 to 1999.

Peter Borren of the Netherlands holds the third spot with 11 consecutive toss losses from 2011 to 2013. Interestingly, despite losing all four tosses in the ongoing tournament, India have won every match. While luck may not be on Rohit’s side when it comes to tosses, he’s certainly enjoyed good fortune in the form of victories.

Santner opted to bat first after winning the toss. After losing yet another toss, the 37-year-old Rohit said that he didn’t mind batting second. While he didn’t want to pay heed to losing another toss, he showed his respect for New Zealand as a strong opponent.

“I don’t mind batting second. It is a good pitch, hasn’t changed a lot. We have to bowl first and we just need to focus on how to restrict them. At the end of the day, what matters is how well you want to play. We don’t want to worry about the toss. We have played good cricket. Another important game. We will see what needs to be done. NZ have been a great team. Another challenge and we will see how well we can play,” Rohit said.
