Drizzle again in Mumbai, Meteorological Department said – this is the rain before monsoon
People got some respite from the heat due to rain on Tuesday morning in the capital of Maharashtra, Mumbai and its adjoining areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has described it as pre-monsoon rain. Mumbai’s Regional Meteorological Department (RMC) said that till 11 am, areas like Malvani, Borivali and Dahisar recorded up to 30 mm of rain.
The IMD had confirmed the arrival of Southwest Monsoon in Maharashtra on Saturday when the Monsoon reached Harnai port in coastal Ratnagiri district. Despite favorable conditions, Monsoon has still not reached Mumbai.
Mumbai RMC director Shubhangi Bhute has described this rain in the city as “convective rainfall”. He said, “You can see that there is rumble of thunderstorms, lightning is cracking and the rain is continuously slowing down. You can call it pre-monsoon rain, but it is definitely not the south-west monsoon. The official said that in view of the prevailing conditions, the southwest monsoon can be announced here after June 10.
